A New Brew in Town

Something's brewing on a small scale in Union County. People are getting downright excited over the wonderful beer and ale being produced at The Copper Kettle Brewery, 339 Fairground Road, in Millmont. The brewery is located inside a tiny room in the basement of Russ Eisenhuth's home, where he and his business partner, Harold Kerlin, meticulously craft beer in 31-gallon batches. Indeed, the operation is so small, they believe Copper Kettle may be Pennsylvania's smallest production brewery.
Because of a lack of availability, and to keep costs down, they fabricated most of the equipment themselves. Both the mash tun and brewing pot were fashioned from stainless steel kettles discarded by a local food processor. "We got them, cleaned them up, retrofitted parts onto them and made what we needed," Eisenhuth explained. To control temperature, the fermenting tanks are housed inside a grocery store-type frozen food freezer, fit with a homemade lid. And their beer is growing in popularity.
