Racing in Central Pennsylvania means so much to so many people for so many different reasons. Case in point, professional sprint car driver Greg Hodnett of Thomasville. A bachelor of science in engineering (cum laude) graduate from Memphis State University, Hodnett was drawn to the region for good in 1998. "I came to Central Pennsylvania to race, pure and simple. |
"Legendary sprint car drivers, owners, mechanics and manufacturers have made their living in Central Pennsylvania. I am very fortunate to be able to do the same. "This area has a very prestigious and storied history in sprint car racing; anyone who is able to both race and make their living here is very fortunate." Hodnett, 38, first learned of what Pennsylvania had to offer in 1989.
"I came up here with Doug Wolfgang," Hodnett relates of his experiences with the Hall of Fame driver. "I was working on the crew at the time. The entire drive up from Memphis, another crew member explained what I was about to see over the next month racing in Central Pennsylvania. He told me the competition was the best of any in the country, the tracks were huge (especially from what I was used to at the time), those tracks would be demanding on the motor program and demanding on the driver and the entire crew. Over the month and a half I worked for them, everything was true. And over the time I've had the opportunities to race here, they still hold true today. One word describes racing in Central Pennsylvania " demanding!"
